  • Mar 25, 2005; Reykjavik , ICELAND; Chess legend BOBBY FISCHER met reporters on his first day as an Icelandic citizen in Iceland. After a visit to the barber shop where he had his beard and hear cut, Fisher looked happy after 9 months in Japan jail. He told reporters that he was finished with a chess world he regards as corrupt, and sparred with U.S. journalists who asked about his anti-American tirades. The United States is evil with there biggest allies, England, Japan and Australia. These are the evildoers, Fischer said. He is wanted by the United States for violating sanctions imposed on the former Yugoslavia by playing an exhibition match against Spassky in 1992. If convicted, he could face 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He told reporters that he had 3.5 million dollars in Switzerland banks but also said that the rest of his belongings were stolen by American Jews.
