  • IMAGO History, Ölpreiskrise 1973 Ölkrise 1973 27. November 1973 Paris, Frankreich Die Ölkrise von 1973 begann am 17. Oktober 1973, als die Mitglieder der Organisation Arabischer Erdölexportierender Länder infolge des anhaltenden Jom-Kippur-Krieges ankündigten, sie würden kein Öl mehr an Länder liefern, die Israel im Konflikt mit Syrien und Ägypten unterstützt hatten (die Vereinigten Staaten, ihre Verbündeten in Westeuropa und Japan). Wegen der Abhängigkeit der industrialisierten Welt von Rohöl und der vorherrschenden Rolle der OPEC als globaler Lieferant hatten diese Preissteigerungen eine dramatische Inflationsrate für die Volkswirtschaften der betroffenen Länder und hemmten gleichzeitig die Wirtschaftstätigkeit.   • 1972 - King Chalid of Saudi Arabia Is Welcomed In West Germany With Studied Politeness King Chalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi-Arabia pays an official visit to West-Germany on invitation of Federal President Karl Carstens. During his stay King Chalid intends to have talks with Federal President Karl Carstens, Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt as well as the chairman of the political parties represented in the West-German Bundestag. The main subjects of the negotiations are the price mark up of the OPEC which Saudi-Arabia, the biggest oil-contractor of West-Germany, don;t keep pace with as well as the near East policy of West-Germany and the nearer co-operation with the states situated at the Arabian gulf.   • Nov 29, 1973 - London, England, UK - The 1973 oil crisis began on October 17, 1973, when the members of Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries announced, as a result of the ongoing Yom Kippur War, that they would no longer ship oil to nations that had supported Israel in its conflict with Syria and Egypt (the United States, its allies in Western Europe, and Japan). Because of the dependence of the industrialized world on crude oil and the predominant role of OPEC as a global supplier, these price increases were dramatically inflationary to the economies of the targeted countries, while at the same time suppressive of economic activity.
