  • IMAGO History, Vietnamkrieg: 1955-1975 Jul. 25, 1966 - Women Demonstrate Against USA: In Calcutta, India, over 500 women - housewives, factory and office workers and students - led by a communists held a three hour demonstration in front of the United States Information Service library in Central Calcutta last Tuesday (July 19) condemning American bombing in North Vietnam and escalation of the Vietnam war. The women coming from different parts of the city and suburbs earlier held a rally in central Calcutta s parade ground. Different speakers addressing the rally bitterly criticized President Johnson s Vietnam policy and demanded that Americans immediately withdraw from Vietnam. They then marched in procession through Calcutta s main roads. Arriving in front of the USIS Library the processionists marched in a circle for about one hour in front of the USIS main gate constantly raising anti-American slogans -Hands off Vietnam,  - ZUMAk09

At first the Viet Cong booby trap was simply a hole in the ground, about the size of a man s foot, containing a few razor-sharp bamboo stakes. Because of those traps U.S. troops were issued a new type of boots, which the stakes could not penetrate. The new Punji traps now conceal two victim steps on the trap the wire snaps and rows of iron spikes pierce his leg above the boot and enter his leg muscles from two sides.
